Interior Designer Daryle Preminger has added product designer to her lengthy resume with a line of decorative pillows that reflect her modern, minimal sense of style.

Developing a Design Voice

Preminger’s career has taken her from New York to Hong Kong, Italy, France and the U.K. The designer says her travels to such varied cultures serves as a constant inspiration for her vision and resultant creations.

She notes that from her early days as a fashion designer, she was “never a follower.” It’s that aversion to fluctuating trends that has blossomed into a signature style and product line with a very distinct voice.

“I like things that are unfussy,” Preminger says. “Modern, clean, serene. That’s me.”

Filling a Design Void

Preminger says she noted a void in the home design market while she was creating home interiors for clients. What she felt was missing were “accessories that embrace a sense of serenity while complementing a modern environment.”

“I love working with interiors,” Preminger says. “I started designing pillows for my clients because I just couldn’t find the right product. I realized I could fill a void.”

Simplicity in Design

The tagline for the home collection is “Serene. Refined. Pure.” and it couldn’t be more accurate. The collection’s design theme is a reflection of Preminger’s own personal style: Simplicity. The collection was built around a series of “textural neutrals” to achieve “a sense of serenity while adding life and vigor to every room.”

By mixing textiles and textures like silk, linen, jute and copper, and keeping to their subtle, natural color palette, the designer is able to create depth and interest. The designs exude sophistication without being showy.

What’s more, the entire collection is made right in New York, adding local appeal and allowing Preminger to keep close watch on the entire design process.

Natural, Neutral Materials

The mix of materials and the natural color palette was designed to foster a sense of tranquility in design. For example, for French Grosgrain, a selection of crisp grosgrain ribbon is paired with a background of either white, chalk or flax linen; in Textured Stripe, delicate silk organza and jute stripes contrast with pure heavy linen; and for Metallic, a sleek, metallic texture is rendered from copper and linen.

“I believe in neutrals,” Preminger says of her preference for subtle, natural variations in hues. “I believe in color too, but it has to be right.” She believes linen is a textile for all seasons and uses it as such. “It’s what I mix with linen that will be seasonal,” she says.
