A highlight of the Atlanta International Area Rug Market is America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards, an event some have come to refer to as “the Academy Awards of the area rug industry.” Throughout the market, the Museum of Introductions gallery displays area rugs submitted by market participants as the best of their latest designs.
Categories are broken down by price, as well as by criteria including power-loomed, handmade and antique. The rugs are voted on by an independent panel of judges -- which has once or twice included yours truly -- and the awards are presented during a gala evening.
